Weather slows travelers to a stop in El Paso

Thursday, December 5, 2013 - 11:43pm

Weather issues across the state are causing problems here in the Borderland.
Flights out of El Paso International Airport are cancelled and buses leaving the Greyhound Station have been indefinitely postponed.

A few wayward travelers gather in the cold to smoke.
They're coming to terms with the fact that they might be stuck at the El Paso Greyhound Bus Stop for awhile.

"I mean what else am i supposed to do?," asked Jessica Dedes.

"I just want to get home," said Michael Carver.

Dedes is trying to get to Detroit and Carver is trying to get to Oklahoma. They just want to get home.

"Apparently there's an ice storm and they stopped all of the buses so people like me who this is our only route home," Dedes said. "Now we're stuck and they hand you a meal voucher and say have a good day".

Carver packed what he could carry and is moving home to Oklahoma.

"It's really upsetting because I have family that are waiting for me," he said.

Carver's not the only one who's at the weather's mercy.
Most flights to and from Dallas have been cancelled or delayed.
Franklin High School's varsity basketball team is stuck in Lamesa, near Lubbock.

"We're just trying to be open minded and enjoy the experience because it's not that often that something like this happens," said Coach Todd Bostic.

They had a tournament this weekend, but now it's cancelled because the weather stopped all of their competitors.

In El Paso, the supervisor at Greyhound says they're doing the best they can. The weather is just too dangerous.
Several bus trips have been delayed indefinitely.
