VINTON — Village leaders in Vinton had one last chance Tuesday night to apply for millions in dollars in state grant funding for a new sewer project, and once again several council reps failed to show up.
No action was taken at Tuesday's meeting because council failed to reach a quorum. The Texas Water Development board has ranked Vinton as the number one community in the state in need of these funds. Vinton has no viable sewage system. All town leaders had to do was apply.
"We go back to the bottom, but it doesn't frighten us. We continue to fight and in six months or a year or longer we will be able to file again and start over," said an optimistic Mayor Madeleine Praino.
Another community will now be awarded the $40 million in state funds.
