Anthony, Texas (KDBC) — The new mayor of Anthony, Texas says things in the town are moving along quite well. Tonight Luis Vela held his first meeting as mayor. As we reported, Art Franco, the former mayor was plead guilty last month to charges of tampering with governmental records. Now Vela has stepped in to help the city move forward. Vela says the city is not in limbo and everything has been moving along. He says the appointment came as a surprise to him but he's ready to serve as the city's mayor.
"That was one of my discussions that i had with the existing council that i have a full time job and they need to take care of some stuff too and so far they're been great," said Vela.
Vela will serve as mayor until May of 2014.
