A “mathemagician” who gave one of the Top 20 TED talks is among the scheduled keynote speakers during the region’s premier event focused on enriching teaching and learning in post-secondary education next month at The University of Texas at El Paso.

Art Benjamin, Ph.D., magician and professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Southern California, will present his high-energy “Mathemagics” program as part of the 11th International Sun Conference on Teaching and Learning.

The conference will include speakers, panel discussions and more than 60 presentations that will challenge and inspire participants.

Benjamin will speak at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Tomás Rivera Conference Center (TRCC) on the third floor of UTEP’s Union Building East. His 2005 TED presentation, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, has been viewed more than 5 million times.

The event’s theme, “Celebrating Teaching and Learning,” recognizes UTEP’s Centennial Celebration and encourages others to get excited about the innovations being developed in the field.
