Socorro — SOCORRO — Five Socorro employees who were believed to be employees of the city's police department were arrested last night, according to El Paso county jail records.
Texas State Troopers raided the Soccoro Police Department substation and the Socorro Police Headquarters at Poona Tuesday night, where they searched through files and computers belonging to the employees.
According to El Paso County Jail records, Jose Alvarez, Refugio Orta, Israel Delgado, and Javier Varela, were arrested on separate charges of tampering with governmental records and official oppression. A fifth employee, Raul Huerta, was arrested on delivery of marijuana. We're told that these five did not show up to work Wednesday at the Socorro Police Department. Officials will not confirm that these individuals are in fact police officers until full details of the arrest affidavit are investigated.
The Socorro city spokesperson, David Garcia, tells us that the arrests are related to an ongoing investigation with the Texas Department of Public Safety and the district attorney's office.
