November 14, CEO Jim Valenti will handwrite a dedication on a rose vial to be placed on the Donate Life float that will be featured in the 2014 Rose Parade, surrounded by families of organ and tissue donors as they gather to rededicate the hospital’s Wall of Heroes.
At 9:30am in the ICU Waiting Room, UMC will also rededicate its Wall of Heroes, the nation’s first, which has since spread across the country. Five new photos of local heroes who saved lives through organ donation will be added to the wall, with the families of those heroes in attendance.
Also in attendance will be Ofelia Dominguez, mother of organ donor Andrea Rae Dominguez, who was the original inspiration for the nation’s first Wall of Heroes.
Southwest Transplant Alliance is sending Ofelia to Pasadena, California in January, where she will ride on the Donate Life float in the Parade of Roses, in honor of Andrea. The Donate Life float, viewed by millions of Americans, will showcase how donors and hospitals across the country make possible the life saving and healing benefits of organ and tissue donation. Ofelia, along with Andrea’s photo and several rose vials from El Paso, will give the city a special place in this important event.
