Unemployment rate falling, but not in Texas

Unemployment rates fell in 28 states in October according to the Bureau of Labor statistics.

Friday's report showed 17 states had rates significantly below the U.S. average in October, while 9 states plus the District of Columbia had measurably higher rates.

Florida led the country with the largest monthly increase in employment, gaining more than 44,000 jobs.

Closer to home, Texas' unemployment rate fell to 6.2 percent from 6.3 percent. In El Paso, we gained 1,000 jobs, but stayed at an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent. That means there are 27,000 people without a job.

New Mexico's unemployment rate was 6.6 percent in October down, from 6.7 percent the month before.

All rates are seasonally adjusted.
