EL PASO (KDBC) — The Texas Department of Transportation will once again be closing all of Interstate 10 in West El Paso as part of the ongoing Spur 1966 project.
TxDOT officials said on Sunday, June 8, construction crews will install the metal beams of the new freeway overpass located near UTEP.
As a result, I-10 will be closed in both directions beginning at 5 a.m. that Sunday, and will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Monday, June 9.
Eastbound lanes will be shut down beginning at Sunland Park, and westbound traffic will be closed from Porfirio Diaz to Schuster, according to TxDOT.
The overpass project was put on hold after a deadly crash involving two construction workers on May 12.
18-year-old Jan Michael Nieves drove through construction barriers on I-10 East near Schuster, according to investigators, killing 54-year-old Jimmy Joe Broadstreet and 39-year-old James Green.
