TX Highway With Highest Speed Limit in the U.S. Opens to Traffic

Wednesday, October 24, 2012 - 8:55am

The fastest highway in the country opened to traffic Wednesday.

A 40 mile stretch of State Highway 130 in Texas, which is a toll road between Austin and San Antonio, will have a posted speed limit of 85 miles per hour.

35 states have raised speed limits above 65 miles per hour since Congress lifted the federal law setting the speed limit.

Drivers in the area are excited, but some are concerned speed could contribute to more fatalities in crashes.
