EL PASO (KDBC) — It's the first official shopping weekend at the new $70 million Fountains at Farah shopping center. Dick's Sporting Goods, a new store to El Paso and Best Buy will officially open their doors Friday morning.
Three stores were open for shoppers and they're getting a great reception.
Stein Mart celebrated its grand opening Thursday and dozens of people waited in line to be the first ones inside the store that offers department store products at discount prices.
"I'm glad and I'm going to be shopping here a lot," said Diana Garcia.
Shoppers are excited about Stein Mart's second store in El Paso, but still they wish other big name stores would have made the Sun City home.
"I would like more department stores I think we need something besides Dillard's and Macy's so if they could bring like Saks Fifth Avenue or the big Nordstrom, I'd be happy," said Garcia.
"I think they should have brought in different stores we don't already have. I think a lot of stores that they did bring in are stores that are already some that we can go to. I think if they would have brought different ones that would have been better," said Celina Portillo.
Dick's Sporting Goods opened at 8 a.m. Friday and Best Buy opened at 10 a.m.
Other stores, including TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Nordstrom Rack, have scheduled their grand openings in the next few weeks.
The shopping center will ultimately be home to seventy stores, although several store fronts are still empty. The Fountains at Farah marketing director said we'll get to see more of the stores coming in November.
