El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Local leaders celebrated the completion of two sports fields in East El Paso Thursday.
The two lighted fields are located near the baseball field at Blackie Chesher Park, and were built at a cost of about $1 million.
The expansion of the fields resulted from a land exchange between the City of El Paso and El Paso Water Utilities.
"Obviously this part of land here on Zaragoza and I-10 was really an eye sore over the years. There were a lot of legal problems, but I'm really happy the water utility company stepped up to the plate and helped the city," said El Paso City Representative Eddie Holguin, who represents that area.
In addition to the expansion, other improvements were made including lighting, fencing, sidewalks, and irrigation systems.
