Two men indicted on separate intoxicated manslaughter charges

Two men who are accused of intoxication manslaughter in separate cases were indicted in El Paso courtrooms earlier this month.

Jacob McGuire, 22, a Fort Bliss soldier, was indicted on intoxication manslaughter and manslaughter charges on March 12, 2014. McGuire is accused of killing 20-year-old Leeza Lugo of Anthony, TX after the Dodge Ram he was driving lost control and hit a concrete barrier on Loop 375 near Railroad in the early morning hours of August 24, 2013.

The other passengers in the car, Kyle Foster, Carabelle Gallegos, and Zachary Wood were also treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

At the time of the crash, Javier Sambrano with the El Paso Police Department said that speed and alcohol were both factors in the crash.

Larry Otero, 49, was also indicted in a courtroom on March 12th on intoxication manslaughter charges. Otero is accused of getting on I-10 going the wrong direction, causing the death of 29-year-old Gabriel Morales on November 14, 2013.

Otero was not arrested and charged with Morales' death until he was released from a hospital facility on January 17, 2014. Otero is still facing a separate DWI charge from an arrest in May 2013, that case is ongoing and a final pre-trial date is set for March 26, 2014.

Otero is also set to be arraigned on the intoxication manslaughter charges on March 26th in Judge Ana Perez' 41st District Court.

A trial date has not been set for McGuire, which will be held in Judge Gonzalo Garcia's 210th District Court.
