Anthony, NM (KDBC) — Two men were arrested just after midnight on Saturday, December 14th after Dona Ana County Sheriff's Deputies say they allegedly broke into Gadsden High School and stole various items, including a digital camera, two-way radio, stereo equipment, a space heater and several bags of chips and soda.
Deputies saw Mario Maynez, 25, and Alexis Avila, 18, both from Anthony, walking near NM 28 and Westside Road carrying several items and acting suspiciously. When Deputies attempted to talk to the pair, they tried to drop the items they were carrying and run.
Deputies soon caught up with the two and took them into custody. Upon further investigation, they discovered that the items that they were carrying were stolen from Gadsden High School. Sheriff's units were dispatched to Gadsden where they found signs of forced entry to the school.
Maynez and Avila were both arrested on charges of larceny, non-residential burglary, criminal damage to property and resisting or obstructing arrest. Maynez also had an outstanding warrant for failure to pay fines.
Both men were transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
