El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso City Council gave the green light to the Triple-A baseball team's owners to front $12 million towards the costs of the new stadium.
MountainStar Sports Group will be spending the extra millions, bringing the total costs of the stadium to $60.8 million.
Officials said the higher costs will pay for the stadium's amenities such as party decks, bullpen bar, team store, and a water feature in the centerfield play area.
City representative, Cortney Niland said she was pleased with the new plan.
"Thank goodness. This is the art of negotiation," she said. :"Two weeks ago we clearly we said we weren't going to pay for it. And we hoped that they would and they stood up to the table and they did so I'm very appreciative."
The new deal also stretched out the lease term from 25 to 30 years. MountainStar Sports Group will be also paying $400 thousand per year instead of $200 thousand to make up for the higher costs of the stadium.
