El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso Police tell us that 2-year-old Jazlin Saldana has passed away as a result of injuries sustained following a rollover on Saturday evening. EPPD has arrested the driver, 32-year-old Bernice Alonso in connection with the toddler's death.
The crash happened about 7:33 p.m. Saturday night along the 9700 block of Socorro Rd. Police say Alonso was driving east when she lost control of her car, causing it to veer off of the road and roll over several times.
Alonso's passenger, 2-year-old Jazline Saldana was ejected from the car and sustained head trauma. Saldana was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries where she died Monday evening.
Alonso also sustained a head injury in the crash and was transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment.
Special Traffic Investigators believe that speed, distracted driving, and alcohol are all factors in the crash. Police did not say whether the 2-year-old was properly restrained in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.
Alonso has been charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, she has been booked on a $100,000 bond.
