El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill into law Tuesday that will provide stricter oversight on psychotropic medications prescribed to children in foster care.
House Bill 915, will protect children from over medication and will help ensure that the child welfare system is providing appropriate treatment, including trauma-informed care and services to help abused and neglected children heal from the underlying causes of their behavior.
State leaders say over-reliance on medications is a symptom of the over-burdened child welfare system where caseloads and turnover is high among child protective services workers.
