SUNLAND PARK, NM- Since Western Playland Amusement Park moved from Ascarate to Sunland Park in 2006, it has not had a new ride... until now.
It does not look like much today, but as soon as the cranes show up to assist these ~coaster~ builders, 18-hundred feet of metal track will be raised about 55 feet in the air. This will be the newest ride at the amusement park, a roller coaster called the Hurricane and it will have speeds of 50 mph and in some of it's turns, it will produce a force of 3 and a half g's.
A crew from Florida is in town to help with the build and within a week, motorists passing through the Westside will notice the metal roller coaster.
It's about the same size as the Bandito, only faster!
Western Playland opened for the weekends only on March 1 and will keep Saturday hours of 2-9 and Sunday hours of 2-7. They are always closed on Monday and Tuesday and starting in May they will be open for the summer with extended days and times.
