SWAT situation turns deadly after house explodes

Wednesday, June 11, 2014 - 8:34am

One person was killed following a swat situation and house explosion in Vado, New Mexico.

It happened at a mobile home near the intersection of New Mexico 478 and Franco Road. Doña Ana County Sheriff's Deputies said the incident stemmed from a feud between a father and son. The father barricaded himself in the home Monday. When the son went back to the home Tuesday afternoon with a sheriff's deputy, the father allegedly fired a shot at his son through the front door.

We're told the deputy cleared the area and called for assistance from the Special Response Team. Then a few hours later, there was an explosion inside the home. Authorities are now investigating what happened. Kelly Jameson with the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office, said, "We don't know what the source of that explosion was and we had to wait for fire crews to get that fire out before we could go in and assess the situation."

After entering the home, authorities found a body. That person has not yet been identified. No other injuries were reported.
