Study: HIV-Related Deaths on Decline

Tuesday, October 9, 2012 - 9:13pm

A new report found HIV-related deaths were down for most segments of the population.

The American Cancer Society said HIV deaths declined significantly between 1993 and 2007 -- except among African-Americans.

Researchers credited the widespread use of anti-viral medications, but said not everyone had equal access to these drugs.

In fact, declines were highest among whites and those with the most education. HIV death rates remained high for black men and were unchanged for black women in the lowest socioeconomic bracket.
