New York — Talk about a makeover.
The Statue of Liberty is reopening today after being closed for renovations for a year.
Today's comes as the iconic statue marks its 126th birthday.
The 19th-century gift from France was closed last October so crews could make it easier to navigate and more accessible. Now, for the first time, visitors in wheelchairs will have access to one of Lady Liberty's observation decks.
The renovations also include new staircases to allow visitors to get through the statue's pedestal and observation platform easier... as well as an emergency elevator.
