WASHINGTON (CNN) — The State Department is paying the price for its Facebook "likes" -- in more ways than one.
The Department is catching heat after an inspector general's report released in may found it spent $630,000 dollars on campaigns to increase the department's Facebook fans.
The report says the online advertising campaign did work -- with the Department's english pages alone increasing from 100-thousand fans to two million in two years.
Some employees accused the department of "buying fans."
The State Department has since slashed funding for the campaigns.
