Son arrested, accused of beating dad with bat

Friday, March 22, 2013 - 4:52pm

Las Cruces police arrest one man accused of beating his father with an aluminum baseball bat.

Officers received a call about a domestic fight in the 800 block of Foster Rd. just after 8 p.m.

They say Vincent Lopez, 27, punched his father until he lost consciousness after he got upset from an argument between both his parents.

After the 52-year-old man regained consciousness, Las Cruces officers say that's when Lopez picked up the bat and hit his father several times.

Police say Lopez was unruly when officers showed up, causing them to use a Taser against him.

Lopez is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery against a household member, and one count of evading or obstructing a peace officer.

Officers booked him into the Doña Ana County Detention Center. His bond was set at $10,000.
