Sheriff's deputies arrested 59 year-old Victor Villanueva Friday morning for illegally dumping about 1,000 lbs. of waste onto a neighbor's property.
The incident happened two years ago in June 2011. According to deputies, Villanueva dumped more than 1,000 lbs. of trash over the course of several months onto his neighbor's farm in Socorro.
Villanueva was arrested and charged with two counts of illegal dumping Friday morning around 8AM. He was later released from jail after posting $5,000 bond.
A spokesperson for the El Paso County Attorney's Office says they do not tolerate illegal dumping and warns the public against doing it because he says they will be punished.
"Unfortunately, if you've been a resident of El Paso County or the City of El Paso, you've seen that there's way too much illegal dumping. We consider it a serious issue and the County Attorney remains committed to vigorously prosecuting illegal dumpers," said Ralph Girvin from the El Paso County Attorney's Office.
If a person is found guilty of illegal dumping, he or she may be fined up to $10,000, serve up to 2 years in jail, or both.
Victor Villanueva contacted us for an interview today but when we returned his call, he declined to comment.
