Your smartphone could help you keep your figure over the holidays!
Northwestern University researchers found a mobile app that tracks weight and activity helped users lose fifteen pounds, and keep the weight off for a year.
Those who lost weight had sent their information to a behavioral coach, who tracked their progress. They also attended nutrition and exercise classes.
Only using the app, without educational support, did not lead to weight loss.
Experts say seeing how much you eat, and how many calories you burn during exercise, helps users make healthy decisions.
The participants did not interact with the behavioral coach often, but knowing someone was holding them accountable helped them stick to their diet and exercise plan.
