Search committee formed for TTUHSC first president

The search now begins for the first president of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, El Paso's first medical university.

The announcement came from Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance Friday.

"The first president of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso will greatly shape the future of our institution and set a course for its continued success. I am confident this committee will help identify a leader who will uphold our strong standards of excellence and build upon our current momentum in El Paso," said Hance.

The 13 members of the search committee include:

Chairman J. Robert Brown, the former chairman of the TTUS Board of Regents
Richard Castro, CEO of Castro Enterprises
Dr. Kelly Cronin, the vice chancellor of Institutional Advancement for the TTUS
L. Frederick Francis, TTUS Board of Regents member and WestStar Bank chairman
Grace Hernandez, chief of staff, Office of the President, Texas Tech University
Joshua Hunt, Exec. V.P. of Hunt Companies, Inc. and part-owner of the coming AAA Baseball team
Dr. Rajkumar "Raj" Lakshmanaswamy, basic science research director of the Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, TTUHSC at El Paso
Tim Lancaster, TTUS Board of Regents member
Dr. Gustavo "Gus" Martell, Eastside Women's Healthcare physician in El Paso
Nancy Neal - TTUS Board of Regents member
Emma Schwartz - Medical Center of the Americas Foundation executive director
Ben Lock (Non-voting member), executive assistant to the Chancellor
Dr. Joseph Rallo (Non-voting member) - TTUS Office of Academic Affairs vice chancellor

Seven of the 13 are from El Paso.

They will all help identify and screen potential candidates, then make recommendations to Chancellor Hance, He will give a recommendation to the Board of Regents, who will then make a decision.
