EL PASO (KDBC) — All this month, Rudy's customers can buy a pink cup and make a one dollar donation to a non-profit organization that helps young women with breast cancer. It raised $32,000 in just the first week.
"Get a drink, if you donate to pink. Awesome," said customer Jessica Arellano.
For a second year in a row, Rudy’s Country Store and Bar-B-Q is raising awareness for breast cancer. All you have to do is buy a pink cup and donate a dollar. You also get a free drink on your next visit.
"I think people in El Paso are very generous and always willing to help donate," said customer Frank Huizar.
"I’ve seen a lot of people donating. A lot of the regular customers, even people that have donated once or twice have been donating several times a week," said General Manager Peter James.
The money raised will go to the Young Survival Coalition, an organization that focuses on women 40 and under diagnosed with breast cancer.
"I think it's a wonderful cause just because I think we've all been affected by somebody with cancer in some way, shape or form," said Managing Partner Victor Barajas.
"I do have family members that are survivors but, just in general, when I can lend a helping hand I’m always willing to," said Huizar.
"A lot of family members have a lot of friends that are survivors that have passed, so it's a great way to give back," said Arellano.
Last year, Rudy's raised $88,000 and this year it hopes to reach $100,000.
There are two Rudy’s locations in El Paso, including the one on I-10 and Yarborough and I-10 and Artcraft.
Additionally, Rudy’s Bar-B-Q will add a dollar to the total funds it raises at its stores for every new Facebook like, Twitter follower and Instagram follower.
