EL PASO — A roof contractor was arrested for allegedly failing to pay a sub-contractor wages in replacing the roof of a home.

Police said John Najera, 51, had secured the services of the victim as a sub-contractor to replace the roof of a residence in the 6300 block of Westwind for compensation. The victim completed the services, but police said Najera never paid the victim once the work was completed.

Najera was charged with Theft of Service. He also had warrants out for his arrest that included the charges of Performing a Roof Repair without a Permit as well as Failure to Control Speed traffic
violation.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail late last week on bonds totaling
$10,269.20.

The El Paso Police Department would like to remind employers that failing to pay an
employee’s wages in full is against the law.
