LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A judge denied a change in bond Monday afternoon for a man convicted of negligently killing his infant daughter after he left her in a laundry basket while he went to buy beer.
Robert Flores was convicted of two felony crimes and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
He was released shortly after on an $80,000 bond while his case is on appeal.
Wednesday the court heard a statement from the 4-month-old victim's granddaughter who said they are not pleased Flores is out on bond after being found guilty.
The state asked the court to raise the bond to $250,000 to assure Flores would turn himself in if the appeal was upheld.
The defense asked the bond be reduced to $50,000 and cited a similar case out of Albuquerque with a bond of $50,000.
Judge Fernando Macias ultimately decided the $80,000 bond is appropriate due to Flores's prior compliance with the court.
