El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The opening of the Fountains at Farah, the city's newest shopping center, is just a couple months away. The 600,000 square foot center will be home to more than sixty stores. It hasn't even opened yet, and some El Pasoans are saying it leaves much to be desired.
One by one, more signs go up at the Fountains at Farah in East El Paso. Anticipations builds, as people get a peak of the coming stores like PetSmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, and TJMaxx.
"We work in the building next to it, so its walking distance for us," said Sandra Aguilera.
But not everyone is that excited because some of the stores like Stein Mart, Pier 1 Imports, Starbucks and the Vitamin Shoppe all have other El Paso locations.
Martha Gudano was hoping for a little variety.
"Something different. That would be nice because we do have the same stores in the area," said Gudano.
But she says she's still looking forward to the center, a place to not only shop, but dine and enjoy live entertainment.
"I am looking forward to different areas to eat," said Gudano.
Of course new stores provide new jobs in the area. Women's clothing store Charlotte Russe and Stanton Optical are advertising jobs for stores in the 600,000 square-foot center at Hawkins.
"It will be something good for the economy, for everything," said Aguilera. "Jobs are very limited here, so it its gonna be good for new jobs."
The center, set to open in October, is one of only a few across the country providing a power lifestyle atmosphere.
"I think the kids also need somewhere different to hang out and the parents," said Aguilera.
