A new study reveals that 4 out of 5 Americans are going through harsh economic struggles, and 15 percent of the population in the U.S. is poor.

The research attributes these overwhelming numbers to the high levels of unemployment throughout the country and the number of people that are receiving federal government assistance.

"I see a lot of people struggling around me especially for example in my case I lost my job a couple of months back and you know we have to start all the way from the bottom" El Paso resident Yvonne Burns said.

"Just financially with everything gas prices everything, everybody around me is struggling" Mary Alvarado said.

As we've reported a local study indicates that El Paso has more than 200 thousand people living below the poverty line.
