Denver, CO (CNN) — It was a tax protest with a twist.
Event organizers in Denver handed out free joints of marijuana and thousands showed up to show their support.
It was a mostly peaceful wait for a shot at a free, hand-rolled, high quality marijuana cigarette.
Organizers protested tax issues on state and Denver ballots this November, saying a tax of at least 30% would be placed on recreational pot.
Still, many people disagree with marijuana even being legal in the state.
On Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a first ever senate hearing on the issue of marijuana to begin what could be the beginning of a process to legalize it nationwide.
