Proposed tax hikes for county property taxes

El Paso County Commissioners accepted the 2014 tax rates Monday, which will now need to go to public hearings.

The current tax rate sits at $.43 cents per 100 dollar valuation.

After public input, commissioners could vote to adopt a rate anywhere from nearly $.45 for the effective tax rate, to nearly $.49 cents in the rollback tax rate. That rate is the highest possible without needing voter approval.

That could mean higher taxes between $15 and $55 for a home valued at $100,000.

The tax rates will be published in local newspapers this week...

The dates for public hearing should be announced in the coming week.
