President Obama expected to nominate new Secretary of Labor today

(CNN) — It's not official yet, but it's only one step away. A White House official confirms assistant U-S attorney general Thomas E. Perez will be tapped for Secretary of Labor.

Earlier this month, CNN's Jessica Yellin reported that Perez would be named to that position in the Obama administration.President Barack Obama is expected to formally nominate Perez today.

Perez currently heads the Justice Department's civil rights division
