Prescription Drug Monitoring System Expanded

EL PASO — Doctors and police now have a new tool to try and curb prescription drug abuse. It's an online prescription drug monitoring program called Prescription Access in Texas. The Texas Department of Public Safety actually launched the system a year ago, but it was just a pilot program.

Prescription Access in Texas, or PAT, allows doctors and law enforcement officials to view a person's prescription drug history. Pharmacists, podiatrists, dentists, and veterinarians will will also acquire access to the system in the coming weeks.
