CIUDAD JUAREZ, MEXICO— Four people have been arrested in connection to the murder of the Juarez mayor's bodyguard.
The federal police said Wednesday that they have four of their own federal police agents under investigation in connection to the murder of one of Mayor Hector Murguia's bodyguards.
“He identified himself as a guard, and he put his gun down because in those cases they don't drop their guns,” said Murguia. “He put his hands up as a sign of peace and then he was murdered.”
The investigation will now be handled by the federal authorities and not the homicide department of Chihuahua police.
“I'm very angry, and I'm very concerned. If this happened with the mayor's guards, what can I expect for the people of Juarez?” said Murguia.
The identity of the four federal agents have not been revealed.
Federal police had said before that the guard did not put his weapon down, and that federal agents were merely responding to a citizen call that alerted them of suspects with guns in the same area where the mayor was.
