Court-Appointed Attorneys will receive a pay raise

Court-appointed attorneys are about to get a pay raise in El Paso County.

Starting April 1, court-appointed defense attorneys will be paid $90 per hour in court and $75 per hour outside court , that's a $15 increase.

The decision was made by the El Paso Council of Judges.

El Paso County Commissioners rejected a previous salary increase request but Commissioners Court does not have control of the Council of Judges.

County Commissioners court is asking the council to reconsider its decision saying it would mean about a million dollar hit to the county's budget.
