EL PASO (KDBC) — A family was searching for justice. It's been more than a month since an SUV hit a 6-year-old girl in East El Paso and the driver has not been caught. El Paso police are asking for your help.
It happened April 15, on the family's own street, Sea Breeze near East Glen. A woman was behind the wheel of the dark-colored SUV that hit Genesis Galicia.
The impact broke the girl's ankle and her collar bone, and bruised her spleen.
The driver then got out of the SUV, picked Genesis up and put her on the sidewalk, before she drove off.
Police said someone knows this driver.
"Investigators know that somebody out there in the community has information that could solve this case and knows the identity of this driver," said Javier Sambrano with El Paso Police Department.
We visited Genesis at her home last week, where she's recovering very well. The brave 6-year-old girl said the driver could have stopped to help her.
"She should have called the ambulance or something like that, the police, or she could have told somebody on the sidewalk that was there that 'Where's her parents’ and 'Where's her house,'" said Genesis.
The woman was driving a dark-colored SUV with tinted windows. She has short hair and was wearing a baseball cap and a Dallas Cowboys tank top. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 566-TIPS.
