EL PASO – The El Paso Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting, that ended with two people being sent to the hospital.

The EPPD said it went down last night after 8 p.m., as a police officer responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 3800 block of Harrison in Northeast El Paso.

“As the officer was on the scene, a vehicle drove up. The officer approached that vehicle, at which time, the vehicle drove at the officer – striking the officer,” said Detective Mike Baranyay, with the EPPD.

Det. Baranyay said the officer then fired his handgun, targeting the driver.

“The subject, after striking the officer did manage to drive away from the scene, where he crashed,” added Baranyay.

The incident sent both the officer and the driver to the hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.

Those who live near the area, said they're shocked this happened.

“This neighborhood is quiet...real quiet. It's peaceful. Everybody gets along – no problems,” said Brian Hahn.

Matthew Lopez, who also lives near the area, said he's worried about the violence.

“I have a baby, and if there's a shooting going on, a bullet has no name on it, by any means...[it's]...a concern,” said Lopez.

Meantime, the investigation into the incident continues. Neither the driver, nor the officer's name, have been released. Local 4 will continue to follow this story and provide updates, as they become available.
