The Pentagon is planning to "shrink" the number of soldiers in the United States Army.

According to the New York Times, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel wants to reduce Army forces to their lowest level since before the U.S. entered World War II.

He also wants to eliminate an entire class of Air Force attack jets.

Details of the proposed Pentagon budget will be released later today, and must be approved by Congress.
