Pegasus to explore Luna County for research facility

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 - 11:34pm

Pegasus Global Holdings is looking at Luna County as a possible location for their $1 billion dollar research facility, but the Las Cruces area is not out of the running.

A spokesperson with pegasus says Luna County will be voting Thursday morning on entering into an agreement with the company but that agreement does not mean the area has been selected.

"This is not an agreement for us to locate in the county," said Toni Balzano, Pegasus Global Holdings spokesperson. "It's an agreement that would help us explore information about the county to help us make a decision on where to locate."

Pegasus is looking for about 15 square miles of land to build an uninhabited city where they would research energy,  water and agriculture among other things.

The company had chosen Lea County during the summer, but had to reconsider other areas after issues acquiring land.

An area west of Las Cruces was a close second at that time.

Balzano said there is no timeline on when a location will be selected but they are committed to building the facility in New Mexico.
