America's most popular light bulbs are about to become much harder to find. Incandescent light bulbs start phasing out Wednesday. American companies will no longer be able to manufacture or import the glass bulbs which use heated wires to generate light. The phaseout of the traditional 40- and 60-watt light bulbs is part of a 2007 energy efficiency law signed by then-president George W. Bush.
Instead of incandescents, consumers will find more efficient LED, halogen, or flourescent bulbs. You can still buy incandescent bulbs that are already on store shelve, but once they're gone, they're gone for good.
