One building to be saved at Asarco site

Tuesday, April 9, 2013 - 4:52pm

The Asarco smokestacks will be demolished in just four short days, but not everything on the site is being torn down. Less than 200 feet away from the stacks sits the old Asarco administration building. The adobe structure was built back in 1880. Once the stacks fall it will be the only building still left on the site. Trustee Roberto Puga says he is working with the El Paso County Historical Commission to try and preserve it. Costs of restoration are estimated at just under $1 million.
