Obama health care law employer mandate delayed

Tuesday, July 2, 2013 - 8:05pm

The requirement that businesses provide their workers with health insurance, a key provision in president Obama's sweeping health care law, will be delayed by one year.

The Treasury Department says the delay came after business owners expressed concerns about the complexity of the reporting requirements for employers with 50 or more full-time workers.

The extra year is intended to allow the government to assess ways to simplify the reporting process.

Under the Affordable Care Act, businesses employing more than 50 full-time people that don't provide workers health insurance will be penalized.

Those penalties will now begin in 2015 - after next year's congressional elections.
