Oñate HS Student, Mother Dead in Highway 70 Rollover

LAS CRUCES — Highway 70 and Bataan Memorial East at Sonoma Ranch was closed Wednesday morning in both directions after a deadly rollover involving two vehicles, Las Cruces police said.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m. where two people have been confirmed dead. Police said the crash involved two vehicles.

Las Cruces Police Spokesperson Dan Trujillo confirms it was a Mother and her son from Oñate High School who were on the way to school who died.

Highway 70 westbound was being diverted to Bataan Memorial West at the Mesa Grande Drive exit. Traffic on Highway 70 eastbound was directed to exit at Rinconada Boulevard, head northbound and take surface streets east past Mesa Grande Drive.

If at all possible, motorists are asked to avoid the area or seek an alternative route.

Crews were investigating cause of crash.
