Mesilla, NM (KDBC) — The mayor of Mesilla, New Mexico was re-elected by just three votes, and the deadline has come and gone to request a recount.
That means Nora Barraza will serve another term. The Mesilla native received 308 votes in last weeks election, narrowly defeating her challenger Jesus Caro who tallied 305 votes.
Caro had until today to request a recount, but no request was made.
The canvassing board says it counted the votes nearly half a dozen times right after the election to make sure there was no error.
