Due to changes at the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, fingerprinting is transitioning to digital.

Tuesday was the first day digital prints were accepted through Las Cruces subcontractor Security Concepts.

"We're having them call the agencies just to verify," said Mike Gonzales, manager at Security Concepts.

Gonzales said they have not encountered any major challenges with the new system but are helping make sure people are aware of the changes.

The company said registering online for the digital prints has also been a minor inconvenience for some.

The system requires a registration number that has caused some confusion.

Security Concepts said they have seen about the same number of people for both ink and digital.

Law enforcement agencies in Las Cruces no longer provide ink fingerprinting services.
