The next steps for City Hall clean-up, ballpark construction

Tuesday, April 16, 2013 - 12:12am

Demolition weekend is over. The question now is, what's next?

For city hall, crews will be working 24-7 to clean up the 13,000 cubic yards of rubble.

It all amounts to one week's worth of trash El Pasoans accumulate, said City Engineer Alan Shubert.

With the exception of metal to be recycled, the rest of the rubble will be sent to the Clint Landfill, which is staying open an extra three hours to help accommodate the clean up, said Shubert.

Crews are working towards the back first, where the retaining wall will be, so they can hopefully start construction in two weeks, said Shubert.

" Right after that is mass excavation. The other packages remain to come out, so I'll be able to give you better timelines within the next four weeks," he said.

The pressure is on, as the ballpark needs to be ready before opening day, which is less than a year from now.
