Three-point-three million people across the globe died from harmful use of alcohol in 2012. That represents nearly six percent of all deaths worldwide that year. The findings come from a new report from the World Health Organization.

The agency found 16 percent of drinkers worldwide engage in binge drinking. It says 25 percent of deaths among people 20 to 39 years old can be attributed to alcohol. The organization says more needs to be done to protect people from the harmful effects of drinking too much.

It's calling on countries to raise awareness about the dangers associated with alcohol consumption.
