EL PASO, TX — The newest addition to El Paso's downtown revitalization efforts will be opening next week and owners hope it can bring a change to the area.
"We wanted to be apart of what's bringing downtown back to life so along with the new projects going on, we want to make this part of the staple I guess that makes downtown what it's going to become and we hope to see it flourish," said co-owner Eddie Alcala.
The up-scale nightclub, Lotus sits on Stanton and Texas in The Newberry Building which was built in 1911.
It took a year for co-owners to bring their vision to life.
"We've established a sophisticated environment for adults and it's gonna be a twist in the nightclub business. We wanted to offer something different," said Alcala.
An eight-foot tall meditating Buddha serves as a centerpiece that Alcala sculpted himself and an LED TV ball, shipped from China, hovers over the dance floor.
"When we got it, they were like, 'Just to let you know this is the only 360 LED TV in the United States. You guys are the first ones to buy one,'” said Alcala. “So we're happy to have it."
In the basement, a separate club, Pasha will play different music.
And in front is the restaurant, Oliver's that owners said has stayed busy since it opened a month ago.
The Central Business Association said this one-of-a-kind venue will boost business in the area.
"This is such a great thing for downtown," said Dennis Melonas. "We're gonna have a different atmosphere. It's changing as we speak. There's a lot happening."
Owners of the club said parking is not a problem. Guests will be allowed to park in a garage a block away.
