Santa Fe, NM (KDBC) — June was an absolutely horrible month for one sector of New Mexico's economy.
The U.S. Department of Labor reported today that the state lost more 5,000 jobs over the course of 30 days. The majority of them were government or public sector jobs.
Only 5 other states saw bigger job losses than New Mexico in June, but the state's overall seasonally adjusted unemployment held steady at 6.5%.
Economists say that's because the unemployment rate doesn't count people who have moved to other states to find work.
